Could you imagine using no Fixture for your Heat Treatment Process?
Joerg Demmel • March 12, 2026
We work on it. Using less fixture material and volume is the best way to heat treat your products best
For sure the best way to heat treat you products like gears, shafts, pinions, heat exchangers or other metal parts is to place them in the furnace chamber like this:
✅ use the full furnace space
✅ place the products evenly in that space
✅ hold the products reliable in their positions
✅ ensure that all needed parts of the products are evenly heated up and cooled down
✅ ensure that the gases, when chemical reactions are needed, evenly reach the product surfaces.
So, now we need to talk about the Fixture. Because I am sure that you agree, that without any fixture, the products couldn't positioned and hold reliable during the process.
CFC heat treatment fixtures now are the non plus ultra solution to ensure:
✅ positioning and holding your products reliable in every step
✅ with the least (negative) possible impact on your product quality.
Ensuring uniform heat treatmnet results with as little as possible distortion is the target.
Advanced CFC Fixtures designed by High Temperature Concept are the Solution
1. CFC has a much lower Density than any other Metal Fixtures
CFC has a density of around 1.5 g/cm3. For steels or Inconel or ODS alloys we talk about desnities between 7 and 8.1 g/cm3.
2. Higher Yield Strength of CFC especially at high temperatures
The yield strength at higher tempertures decreases for any metal. For CFC the strength increases to higher tempertures typically.
3. Low to zero thermal expansion
The so-called C.T.E. or Coefficient of thermal expansion for CFC is around zero. That means compared to steel fixtures that your fixture dimensions don't change. For heat resistanr steel we usually talk about values of 18 x 10-6 1/K which corresponds with a length increase of 1.8 % or 18 mm on 1,000 mm, which is a lot.
4. No carburising, nitriding effects and more
Steel fixtures warp or get weak and deform under load at temperatures at 800 °C or higher. CFC does not. As well metals carburise etc. in corburicing atmospheres, CFC does not. CFC is only carbon, so it is inert. Note: If you fear carburizing of your workload in the direct contact with CFC Fixtures we know how avoid this effect which starts usually at temperatures above 950 °C, depending on the atmosphere, impurities, steel alloys, and other contact conditions.
The next photo shows another modular CFC Fixture in the top view. For illustration purposes the surroundings are red colored, the bottom is not, although it is still an open design. It is obvious that there is very little material compared to any steel fixtures.
The main effects are:
✅ Fixture weight: 5 to 12 times lighter
✅ Fixture volume up to 75 % less
✅ Fixture net load: up to 2 times more
✅ Product distortion: up to 90% less
And up to six other further advantages you can implement with CFC Fixtures.
